Neale Daniher will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him and those who he inspired with his actions.
Not only an inspiration to his team mates, loved ones and fans throughout his incredible career in footy, his tireless advocacy saw millions invested in vital research and care projects, creating hope for those living with MND.
His signature rally cry, Play On, is louder – now more than ever.
As Neale said, “When it is all said and done, more is said than done.” Undoubtedly, Neale will be remembered for the incredible things he has done.
In 2014, Neale Daniher AO, Pat Cunningham and the late Dr Ian Davis OAM founded FightMND.

A world free from motor neurone disease (MND). Their determination sparked a movement, uniting Australians from coast to coast in the fight against this relentless disease.
Today, thanks to the generosity of the Australian community, FightMND invests in vital research and programs which provide essential support for Australians affected by MND.
In recognition of his extraordinary leadership and advocacy, Neale Daniher AO was named the 2025 Australian of the Year. Despite his own battle with MND, Neale’s unwavering efforts have inspired a nation, proving that resilience and community can change lives.
Together, we fight. Together, we move closer to a future without MND.
