Upcoming Seminar- Tuesday 24 Sept, 2024 12.00pm (AEST)

An online scientific seminar series focused on motor neurone disease (MND) Research. Hear from national experts and emerging leaders in MND research including the latest clinical trials, drug developments, pre-clinical models, discovery research and collaborative platforms. Learn, connect and share with the Australian MND research community.

For enquiries related to the seminar series, please contact: Dr Sarah Bennett

About the Seminar

Prof Ooi will outline the cellular phenotypes of neurons and glia in MND and the reversal of those phenotypes using drugs and antisense oligonucleotides. Evidence will be provided from induced pluripotent stem cells of familial and sporadic patients, mouse models and human tissue, capitalising on recent advancements in electrophysiology, imaging analysis and machine learning. Ultimately, this talk aims to make sense of a whole lot of dots and squiggles and will highlight opportunities for the future.

About the speaker

Lezanne Ooi is a Professor in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience at the University of Wollongong, Australia and Group Leader of the Neurodevelopment and Neurodegeneration Lab. Her research speciality is cellular neuroscience and the regulation of neuronal function and neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative diseases. The Ooi lab uses electrophysiology, imaging and a range of cell and molecular biology techniques to investigate disease mechanisms and for drug discovery, using induced pluripotent stem cells, tissue and disease models.
